After 20 years of prudent and fiscally responsible growth in our current space, University Cooperative School is now ready to complete our building master plan.
Inhabiting the entire footprint of our building has always been our goal.
Phase One is Complete!
On November 3, 2023 our community celebrated the completion of the Phase One of our effort to inhabit the full footprint of our building!
Much Needed Space
By increasing our footprint, teachers and students will be able to optimize the space for play, learning, and instruction. Everyone will benefit from larger classrooms, enhancing our students' ability to collaborate and work in multi-age groups. Reconfiguration will allow us to better utilize the upper level while incorporating the new common space too. Without space constraints and resulting split schedules, teachers' planning time will increase and they'll gain well deserved break time.
The Project
The project will unify our space into a cohesive, cooperative, and comprehensive program for the next generation of U Co-op students.
PHASE TWO – Upper Level
Expanded and upgraded science classroom for enhanced studies
A dedicated Literacy Center
Larger and more efficient classrooms
Completion of seismic retrofitting – the final bracing of the north wall
A welcoming new entryway with access to the lower level (slide included!)
PHASE ONE – Lower Level
New Commons space for across discipline and grade-level learning, socializing, and play.
An art studio with more space.
New Student Services office for one-on-one tutoring and uninterrupted learning.
Seismic enhancements.
